hey y'all, i'm Mel
As a post-grad millennial, I really struggled to find my place in corporate America. Fresh out of college with a biomedical sciences degree, I was hired by one of the top healthcare organizations to be a front desk receptionist. Then, I was promoted within 3 months to a project coordinator role. I couldn’t figure out if I wanted to attempt medical school even though I didn’t have the grades, or try for nursing, PA, healthcare administration, or public health. Clearly, I had no direction. And, I ended up doing none of those things.
While figuring out my next big move, I was also struggling in my current role. Don’t get me wrong. I did great on the job! I was always applauded for my work, but something was missing. I was a good hire, but I didn’t have a real seat at the table. My voice was often minimized due to my title, age, race, and gender. My desired reach and impact were often limited as I left my job overworked, underpaid, and underwhelmed. I truly wanted an impactful career. But, I was exhausted with endless research and still not knowing how…
THEN, THINGS BEGAN TO CHANGE.
